Stuart studied illustration and printmaking at Duncan of Jordonstone, Dundee.
After several years as an illustrator/graphic designer, he returned to painting.
His focus has been landscapes and portraiture with an interest in 16th century Indian and Flemish art (in particular Pieter Bruegel the Elder) and the French Naturalists.
His approach to landscape entails first and foremost to embrace and capture the ever changing elements. Numerous Plein air studies (watercolour) act as a detailed references for studio based oil paintings.
The object of his portraits are to highlight individuals, who for the most part have been almost forgotten, but played an integral role in their lifetime and beyond.
