Hattie Gledson studied at the Leith School of Art, beginning with the Foundation Course (2019-2020) and continuing with the Painting Course for two years (2020-2022). Since completing her studies, Hattie has been painting independently and participating in various artistic opportunities across Scotland, including a two-month residency at the Fife Arms Hotel with Hauser & Wirth. Now based in Edinburgh, she draws inspiration from the environment around her to inform her work.
Hattie's art revolves around people; she carries a sketchbook as she walks through the city, capturing snapshots of daily life. “Connections between people is what fascinates me most; I like my paintings to capture a moment in time,” she explains. Recently, Hattie has been experimenting with bolder, brighter colours, aiming to create an exciting atmosphere and give the characters in her paintings energy. Some of the work in this exhibition has been inspired by the music of Irish singer CMAT.
