Alice Taylor

Alice's work is inspired by the landscapes of home, she make paintings from sketches created on location, combined with the memories she has of the place and often thinks about the works as postcards for the places she's sketched. Alice finds it helpful to have the distance that bringing sketches into the studio allows for interpretation and enjoys the way these works can hint at a larger landscape within an intimate size. For all her works, but especially on a bigger scale,  she loves how paint lets her create different forms and feelings by changing the direction of a brush stroke, thickness of paint or the amount of pressure applied, and how much can be said with one colour by varying these elements. All of Alice's paintings are my way of observing and celebrating nature.

Alice Taylor studied painting at the Leith School of art and was awarded the painting prize in 2022. This year she had paintings exhibited at the Visual Arts Scotland Centenary Award in the RSA and the Scottish Landscape Awards in the City Arts Centre, Edinburgh.  In 2023  she exhibited at the Royal Society of British Artists, Mall Galleries London show. In 2020, she was awarded the Emerging Art and Crafts makers award by VACMA Highland and Creative Scotland Funding in 2022 to develop her collaborative practice.
